Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested five gamblers in Kulgam and seized stake money and playing cards from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that acting on a specific inputs regarding gambling activities in the orchards near railway station Harnag, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Qaimoh raided the specific spot and apprehended five gamblers identified as Arfaat Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Muhammad Bhat R/o Wanpoh, Mohd Ismail Dar S/o Ghulam Muhammad Dar R/o Gassipora Mirbazar, Mohd Ramzan BhatS/o Abdul Majeed Bhat R/o Khudwani, Manzoor Ahmad Lone S/o Abdul Rahman Lone R/o Ghat Qaimoh and Abdul Salam Dar S/o Mohd Akram Dar R/o Maniward Anantnag and also recovered stake money of ₹8850/- &playing cards from their possession. Stating that the said accused were shifted to Police Station Qaimoh where they remain in custody, the Police in its statement further said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Qaimoh besides initiating further investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and also appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
