Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested five accused on charges of involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Kulgam district and also seized 5 vehicles from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Post Frisal seized five vehicles (3 tractors, 1 tipper and 1 excavator) and also arrested four drivers identified as Mohd Hussain Tantray S/o Mohd Abdullah Tantray, Mohd Ashraf Bhat S/o Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, Shahnawaz Ahmad Lone S/o Ghulam Muhammad Lone and Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khanday S/o Abdul Aziz Khanday all residents of Shirpora and Sartaj Ahmad Mir S/o Ali Mohammad Mir R/o Hassanpora, Bijebhara at Gundchahal for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 20/2024 was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Yaripora besides initiating further investigation into the case, the Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people not to indulge in any kind of illegal mining activities from any Nallah as it is the violation of Government rules but also warned that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law.
