Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Qazigund during Naka checking at Nussu Badragund intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. PB02EJ-6871 driven by Baljinder Singh S/o Balbir Singh R/o Bakshiwal Gurdaspur, Punjab and during search recovered 8.2 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody , adding therein that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that a police party of Police Station Kulgam during patrolling at Mohammadpora intercepted a suspect identified as Nisar Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Salam Mir R/o Mohammadpora carrying a nylon bag and during search recovered 5.1 Kgs of Cannabis powder like contraband substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody, Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
