Srinagar: The Kashmir University (KU) Thursday felicitated the 6-A-Side cricket teams (Men and Women), who secured gold medals at the prestigious ‘All India Intervarsity 6-A-Side Cricket Tournament’ held at Suresh Gyan Vihar University (SGVU), Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan and Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal felicitated both the cricketing teams during a function held here “to recognise and acknowledge their talents and dedication in making the university proud”, an official spokesperson said in a statement issued here.
Congratulating the winning teams, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, said: “We are proud of the exceptional performance displayed by both male and female athletes, whose dedication and skill made a mark in the prestigious national-level competition.” Prof Khan added that winning the championship and securing gold in itself is a testament to the fact that “the university is progressing towards achieving greater heights on the national and internal platforms”.
She further said that the university is empowering students by providing them the required training and infrastructure to hone their skills and talent.
KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and assured aspiring players of continued support for their advancement in sports.
“The whole university is celebrating this win. On behalf of the university community, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to both the teams, their coaches and the supporting staff, for achieving this feat and making the university proud,” Prof Naseer said.
Acknowledging the dedication of the coaches in instilling sportsmanship and team spirit among the participants, Director Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), KU, Dr Mandeep Singh thanked them for their “relentless efforts in contributing to the success of both the teams”.
“Our university takes immense pride in its athletes’ achievements and the dedication of the supporting staff and looks forward to continued excellence in sports,” he added. Special Secretary to KU VC, Dr Ashfaq Zarri, also attended the function, the statement added.
Meanwhile, to deliberate on the strategies for promotion and development of sports infrastructure and sports culture within the university campuses, the Directorate convened a meeting for suggestions and feedback from the Sports Coordinators of the main and satellite campuses to increase sports activities and enhance the facilities available to students. The meeting, chaired by Director DPES, Dr Mandeep Singh, provided a platform to Sports Coordinators to exchange insights on current challenges and opportunities in cultivating a vibrant sports culture on the campuses.
