Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested eight gamblers and also seized stake money and playing cards from their possession in Baramulla and Kulgam districts.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Palhallan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan while acting on a specific inputs about gambling activities in the orchards of Tapper Pattan, raided the specific spot and apprehended four gamblers from whom the stake money of ₹ 1250/- and playing cards were seized
Stating that the said accused were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohd Abdullah R/o Trumgund Sopore, Ab Ahad Rather S/o Ghulam Mohd, Mohd Shafi Wani S/o Gaffar Wani and Ghulam Nabi Parra S/o Abdul Raheem all residents of Tapper Pattan, Police in its statement said that the said accused were shifted to Police Station Pattan where they remain in custody, adding therein that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pattan besides initiating further investigation.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in a similar action in Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police Station DH Pora while acting on specific inputs gambling activities in the orchards of Pombay Kulgam, raided the specific spot and apprehended four gamblers identified as Aamir Ahmad Shakhsaz S/o Abdul Hamid Shakhsaz R/o Chawalgam, Abdul Rashid Thoker S/o Ghulam Ahmad Thoker R/o Pombay, Mohd Ashraf Malik S/o Wali Mohd Malik R/o Yaripora & Sharukh Khan S/o Fayaz Ahmad Khan R/o Chatabal Kulgam , adding therein that stake money of ₹ 7650/- and playing cards were recovered from the possession of the said accused who were shifted to Police Station DH Pora where they remain in custody.
Stating that a case vide FIR No 32/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station DH Pora besides initiating further investigation, the Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
