Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party led by SDPO Handwara accompanied by SHO Police Station Handwara and Incharge Police Post Chogul at a checkpoint established at Kulangam near Tutigund crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK09-5672 with two persons on board and during search, 40 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Sajad Ah Bakshi (Driver) S/o Gh Mohd Bakshi R/o Maidan Chogal and Nisar Ah Khan S/o Mohd Yousuf Khan R/o Tutigund who were arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that cases under FIR No. 55/2024 under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Handwara besides initiating further investigation , the Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
