Srinagar: Chairman Peoples Democratic Front ( PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaeen has welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that the Centre would consider revoking the Armed Forces
(Special Powers) Act ( AFSPA )from Jammu and Kashmir and gradual withdrawal of security forces from J& K.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Hakeem while welcoming
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that the Centre would consider revoking the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from Jammu and Kashmir , has demanded release of all the prisoners languishing in different jails ,who were not involved in serious criminal cases. He said these steps , if taken , on the eve of ensuing Eid-ul-Fitr ,would be magnificent confidence building measures (CBMs) to restore peoples trust and faith on the democratic system . He said removal of AFSPA would give a big relief to the affected people of Jammu and Kashmir adding that early removal of AFSPA
would be a big slap to those who brought the draconian law in Jammu and Kashmir during their regime , for the sake of appeasing their bosses in the centre and to protect their Chair. He said following a discernible improvement in the overall security scenario in J&K, Center should not make further delay in removing AFSPA ,holding of assembly elections and restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
