Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significant improvements in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and stated that there has been a significant decline in violence.
In an interview with a private news channel, Shah said that there has been positive development with notable indicators such as the reopening of cinemas, permission for the Muharram Procession after three decades, and the successful hosting of a G20 event that boosted tourism.
“There has been an increase in job opportunities for youth, growth in small businesses, and the overall positive impact since the revocation of Article 370,” he said.
Amit Shah said that Shah expressed the government’s willingness to reconsider the application of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir, citing improved trust in the local police force and the need to address calls for its revocation.
He assured that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be conducted before September, emphasizing the government’s commitment to democracy in the region.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to upholding democracy in Jammu and Kashmir will be honored, ensuring that it transcends the dominance of a few families to become a democracy of the people,” stated Shah. He emphasized the pivotal role of public support in realizing such transformative change and urged the youth to reject the divisive tactics of Pakistan.
“Presently, Pakistan grapples with the harsh realities of poverty and hunger, yet it romanticizes Kashmir as a paradise. It is imperative to recognize that Prime Minister Modi holds the key to Kashmir’s salvation,” Shah said.
Highlighting the government’s efforts, Shah underscored the morale-boosting measures for security forces, including providing employment to the families of martyrs. “Today, every family that has sacrificed a loved one in service to the nation is ensured a livelihood,” he affirmed.
Shah also highlighted the Modi government’s initiatives, including granting reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and women in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time.
The Union Home Minister criticized leaders of NC and PDP for attempting to create discord regarding reservations and questioned why such provisions weren’t implemented earlier by parties like the National Conference.
“There are development initiatives reaching every corner of Jammu and Kashmir, including infrastructure projects, economic progress, and increased private investments. There has been reduction in stone-pelting incidents and emphasized the comprehensive change achievable with the support of the people,” he said.
The Home Minister also addressed concerns regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) and dismantling militant organizations.
Additionally, he emphasized the government’s support for the families of martyrs by providing employment opportunities and ensuring their well-being.
