2-drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, contraband substance recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Devsar at a checkpoint established at Sopat Crossing intercepted one Azad Ahmad Naikoo S/o Sonauallah Naikoo R/o Nussu Badragund carrying a nylon bag who after noticing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and later during search, 4.2 kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered filled in the said bag from his possession.
Police in it’s statement further said that a police party of Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Bypass intercepted one Bilal Ahmad Allaie S/o Abdul Salam Allaie R/o Hawoora and during search recovered 3.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw and 1 gram of Brown Sugar like substances filled in a nylon bag from his possession.
Stating that both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations besides which the cases under relevant sections of law have also been registered at respective Police Stations and investigations initiated, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
