Guntur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on people to extend support to win over 400 seats at the Centre, which would help to achieve ‘Viksit Andhra Pradesh’ as well as ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Addressing a massive public meeting christened ‘Prajagalam’ at Boppudi village near Chilakaluripet in combined Guntur district on Sunday, organized by the Telugu Desam-Jana Sena-BJP alliance, the Prime Minister appealed to the people of AP to end the corrupt YSR Congress party rule by defeating it.

Leaders of the same family are running the YSRCP and the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh, he said, and he asked people in the state to be cautious as it might lead to a split of votes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi regretted that Andhra Pradesh had been lagging behind in development during the last five years and underlined the need for the NDA to come to power in AP. Narendra Modi was also assured of implementing welfare schemes while taking the state on a development path.

Emphasizing the need for a ‘double engine’ government in AP to bring back development, Narendra Modi said: “The NDA focuses on national ‘aspirations’ and national progress. Both Naidu and Pawan Kalyan have been striving for a long time to protect the rights of people. The objective of the NDA is to develop AP for the development of India.”

Modi stated that the results of the elections would be declared on June 4, coinciding with the BJP’s goal of achieving 400 or more seats. Taking a dig at the YSRCP leaders, Narendra Modi slammed: “The ministers of the AP government are competing with each other in corrupt activities.” Highlighting the welfare schemes being implemented by the Central government, the Prime Minister has claimed that over 25 crore people have been brought out of poverty.

Telugu Desam Party chief and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need for the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance to come to power in AP for the redevelopment of the state. “Our flags may be different, but our agenda is the same, which is the welfare of the people,” Naidu said.

Naidu extolled Modi, stating he is not an individual but a force who is transforming India into a power that commands the whole world, and his services are praised by almost all the countries. Schemes like Awas Yojana, Ujwal Yojana, and Kisan Samman have given a totally new definition for welfare, he said.

Film actor turned politician and JSP chief K Pawan Kalyan alleged that no industry has been set up since Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power. Moreover, the industries that existed earlier ran away from here, unable to bear the harassment of the Jagan Reddy-headed government.

The percentage of industrial growth in AP in 2014 was 10.4 percent, which is now -3 percent, lamented. The state is recording negative growth in this, he deplored. Significantly, Narendra Modi did not directly criticize Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy during his speech.

Interestingly, Narendra Modi rose from his seat, interrupted Pawan Kalyan’s speech, and appealed to the people to get down the light tower at the venue. He said that the lives of people were very precious and asked the police to restrain those climbing the light tower. The public addressing system gave trouble twice while Modi was addressing.
