World Consumer Rights Day: DLSA, FCS&CA Kishtwar organise awareness Prog

Kishtwar : District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Collaboration with the Department of Food Civil Services & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) on Friday organized an awareness program on “WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY 2024” here in the Conference Hall, DC Office Complex, Mini Secretariat Kishtwar.
As per the calendar of activities envisaged for March 2024, the program was conducted under able guidance of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) and the supervision of Secretary District Legal Services Authority Kishtwar, Ramesh Lal.
Assistant Director FCS & CA Shafqat Keen was the key speaker, while Sanveer Singh (Assistant LADC) Kishtwar; Sajjad Hussain, Food Safety Officer Kishtwar; Anil Gupta, Assistant Legal Metrological Officer; Sandeep Kumar (Panel lawyer) and Iram Sabha (Panel Lawyer) were the Resource Persons.
The resource persons highlighted the significance and importance of World Consumer Rights Day, observed on the 15th of March every year. The theme for 2024 is “Fair and Responsible for AI Consumers,” as AI has taken the digital world by storm. Technology is set to have an enormous impact on people’s lives, affecting the way they work, communicate; gather information, and much more.
The Key speaker, AD FCS&CA, emphasised that the need of the hour is to protect consumers from such serious implications and to promote fair and responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Furthermore, the resource persons highlighted the rights of consumers, such as the right to be protected, right to be informed, right to choose, right to be heard, right to redressal, and right to consumer education.
They also discussed the legal mechanism of consumer disputes for redressal commissions at the national, state, and district levels.
Later, the queries were raised by participants and the resource persons responded positively.
