“A bypass for Shopian in South Kashmir and upgradation of over 50 kilometer stretch of another highway in North Kashmir also shows Government’s increasing focus on developing road infrastructure in hilly districts.”

Just in a week’s time the Central Government has allocated Rs2093.92 Cr for Shopian bypass and Rs 1404.94 Cr for widening and strengthening the Rafiabad-Kupwara-Chowkibal-Tangdhar-Chamkot stretch of yet another highway in Kashmir Valley. The allocations show the deepening interest of the Ministry of Road Transport and highways (MoRTH) of the central Government under the leadership of minister concerned Nitin Gadkari and as well as Jammu & Kashmir Government under the leadership of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is expanding the network of highways for the purposes of hassle free travel of both the tourists and as well as local populations across Jammu & Kashmir.  A bypass for Shopian in South Kashmir and upgradation of over 50 kilometer stretch of another highway in North Kashmir also shows Government’s increasing focus on developing road infrastructure in hilly districts like Shopian and Kupwara for taping their huge potential for border tourism in Jammu & Kashmir. Taking the two lane highways close to border areas would ultimately boost the economic activities and generate employment and income opportunities for the local populations even in the remote areas of the hilly districts in Jammu & Kashmir. While sustainable services did not reach the remote areas of hilly districts in last more than seven decades of popular rule in Jammu & Kashmir the incumbent Government has invested hugely in road infrastructure projects even in the hilly districts to boost tourism and further the prospects of opening up new employment opportunities for the local populations.

“Though it is a fact that announcement of allocations for road infrastructure is just a beginning and not the announcement in itself but what matters is the fact the plans for the said road infrastructure projects have been rolled out in a very short span of few days. The execution of these road infrastructure projects are obviously part of the Prime Minister “Viksit Bhara Viksit Jammu & Kashmir” recently launched by him from Baskshi Stadium Srinagar, The allocations just announced by the central Government for road infrastructure projects are obviously  a step forward towards the broader objective of enhancing connectivity for the purposes of boosting tourism and investments not only in industrial sectors but also in service sectors like health and education”.

Since the recent allocations for road infrastructure projects have come in a short span of few days after the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Srinagar, a message has gone out to the people in Jammu & Kashmir that words of Prime Minister are being transformed into realities in a short span of few days. Though it is a fact that announcement of allocations for road infrastructure is just a beginning and not the announcement in itself but what matters is the fact the plans for the said road infrastructure projects have been rolled out in a very short span of few days.
