Poonch: As part of the National Deworming Day, District Administration Poonchon Tuesday started a deworming drive to cover 1.98 Lakh children of the government and private schools, Madrasas and Anganwadi centers.
The inaugural ceremony took place at Government High School Ajote and AWC Sheesh MahalPoonch with the active participation of health institutions. Additional District Development Commissioner, Sandesh Kumar Sharma inaugurated the event. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Zulafkar, along with the Chief Education Officer, BishamberDass, and the DPM Unit NHM were also present on the occasion.
A second inaugural function was conducted at Madrasa Zia ulUloom and private School HakiaPoonch, led by the ADC, Tahir Mustafa Malik in presence of Deputy Chief Medical Officer. Albendazole tablets were administered to 1 to 19 year old children.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, a mop-up round has been scheduled for March 18, 2024, which will serve as a means to reach the children who may have been missed during the initial implementation.
National Deworming Day aims to protect children from parasitic worm infections, promoting their overall health and well-being. By administering Albendazole tablets, the initiative seeks to tackle the prevalence of worm-related diseases in the district.
The event also covered far flung areas. For instance, a special event was organised at Govt middle school Mandi which witnessed massive response from the public. Similar exercises were organised at various locations aimed at creating mass awareness.
