Awantipora : One-week international workshop on Thermodynamics of Earth System Components & its Applications: Atmosphere, Hydrology, Ecology, Climate and Society commenced on Monday at IUST.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office IUST here, the inaugural was attended by Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, Prof V.K Gaur Eminent Professor, CSIR as Chief Guest and Prof Axel Kliedon, Max Plank Institute for Biogeochemistry, Germany as Guest of Honor, besides other experts.
Speaking on the inaugural, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo talked about the importance of Collaborative efforts to address global issues. He said that science transcends boundaries and understanding of it must be leveraged to realize sustainable development. He further said that global interdependence and sharing of proportionate responsibilities by the developed world can’t be ignored and research for developing sustainable solutions has to be incentivized.
Prof. Axel Kleidon, from Max Planck Institute said that scientific solutions should influence policy making and implementation as science impacts all aspect of life and can be harnessed for the good of society.Prof. A.K. Gaur, an Emeritus Professor 4th Paradigm Institute, Bangalore, appreciated the initiatives of IUST and said that protection of environment has to be taken seriously. He said that the concern of environmental degradation and the need for adoption of sustainable practices can’t go unheeded.
The workshop sponsored by SERB (Science and Engineering Board) DST Government of India, and organized by Dean of Students IUST will feature extensive technical sessions involving experts from different institutes both national and international.
