Agriculture Deptt-(K) celebrates Int’l Women’s Day

Srinagar : Agriculture Production and Farmer’s Welfare Department Kashmir held a function to celebrate women farmers & entrepreneurs day on the eve of International Women’s Day at Lalmandi, Srinagar.
The Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal after inaugurating the function highlighted the importance of this year’s theme for the day ‘Invest in women: Accelerate Progress’. He said that the main aim and purpose to mark this day is to celebrate and acknowledge the crucial, inevitable role that women play in ensuring the sustainability of different fields including the agriculture sector.
Chowdhary enlisted a number of women centric initiatives by the Department. He said that women make up to the 60% of field workers, organizers and field managers in the agriculture sector. He said that we are observing an encouraging trend that educated women are participating in urban agriculture as well.
Dir Agriculture also held an interactive session with the women entrepreneurs, women officers & officials of the Department.
He directed the concerned officers to organize special agri-skill based training programs for women farmers, women entrepreneurs, women self help groups so that they can contribute and excel in special branches and allied wings of agriculture.
Deputy Director, Central, Waheed -ul-Rehmaan, Agriculture Information Officer Sheikh Imran, Chairperson Womens Committee Asifa Nabi, Floriculturist Kashmir Dr. Anjum Rashid, Seed Analyst Farzana Tabssum, District Officer Irfana Gul, District Officer SMS Mudasir Abdullah, SMS-SDL Shaheena, Programme Officer Rubina Kawkas, Law Officer Sabina and other officials of the department were present on the occasion.
Later on Director Agriculture Kashmir visited Integrated Mushroom Development Centre Lalmandi and Kickstarted the distribution of Spawn among the mushroom farmers.
