Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Sopore and Ganderbal districts and also recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Sopore, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Watergam under the supervision of SDPO Rafiabad and SHO Police Station Dangiwacha at a checkpoint established at Hib Dangerpora Crossing, intercepted two suspects who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot, but were apprehended tactfully and later during search, 583 tablets of banned drugs were recovered from the possession of the accused who were arrested and shifted to Police Station Dangiwacha where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action in Ganderbal, a police party of Police Post Nagbal at a checkpoint established at Gratabal crossing intercepted a vehicle (i10) bearing registration number JK01AF-6330 with three suspected identified as Mohd Furqan Mir (driver) S/o Ali Mohd Mir R/o Bilal Colony Soura, Rayees Ahmad Makdoomi S/o Nazir Ahmad Makdoomi R/o Khalmulla Ganderbal and Dildar Ahmad Hajam S/o Gh Hassan Hajam R/o Rangil Ganderbal on board and during search 2.6 Kgs (Approx) of crushed cannabis were recovered and seized on the spot. “The accused have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody”, the statement further reads, adding therein that “ Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”.
Stating cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigations into the case, Police
in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated it’s commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
