Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party headed by SHO Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established near Walnut factory on NHW intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing Registration number JK20-4946 with two suspects Avinash Gupta (driver) S/o Narinder Gupta and Yashpal Kumar S/o Shanker Das both residents of Gaddi Udhampur on-board and during search of the vehicle, recovered 6.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance and also arrested the accused who were shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action a police party of Police Station Qazigund during patrolling at Village Berigam intercepted a suspect Mohd Yousuf Sar S/o Ghulam Mohd Dar R/o Berigam who tried to flee from the spot after noticing police party, but was apprehended tactfully and during search recovered 80 grams of charas like contraband substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Qazigund besides initiating further investigations, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward or Dial 112 with any inputs about drug peddling/anti-social activity in their vicinity and extend their cooperation to Police in eradicating the drug menace from the society.
