DLSA, G’bal conducts Awareness Prog on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace

Ganderbal: In compliance with plan of action/calendar of activities for the Year-2024 issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal on Saturday organized an awareness programme on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act)” at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Lar.
The programme, organised under the chairmanship of Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman District legal Services Authority, Ganderbal and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal was held to sensitize authorities/managements, employees and adolescent groups with the provisions of the said Act
Secretary DLSA Ganderbal, in her address gave a brief introduction on the provisions of the said Act. She said, the purpose of implementing the POSH Act is to prevent and protect the women from sexual harassment being faced by them at the workplace and ensuring a safe working environment for women.
Deputy LADC Ganderbal, Sajid Irfan highlighted all important facts under different sections of the Act such as definition of sexual harassment, composition of Internal Complaints Committee, complaint mechanism, steps for conduct of inquiry, report submission by Internal Complaint Committee, etc.
He said the POSH Act envisages the setting up of Local and Internal Complaints Committee to hear and redress complaints pertaining to sexual harassment.
Assistant LADC Ganderbal described the duties and the power of the Local & Internal Complaints Committee in a government or public organization. He went on to explain the meaning of ‘Sexual Harassment’ with the help of case laws and examples.
The programme was attended by Medical Officers, Officers and Officials of DLSA Ganderbal, Tehsil Office Lar & BDO Office Lar, PLVs, Aganwadi Workers, Asha Workers, Women of Self Help Groups and was also virtually attended by the Officers and officials of Tehsil Bandipora, DLSA Bandipora and PLVs of District Bandipora.
