“It is for the transport department to respond to the growing demands for e-rickshaws coming from several parts of uptown and as well as interior parts of Srinagar city”

Much before the electric buses were introduced in the twin capital cities Srinagar and Jammu, the Commuters found E-Rickshaws the most convenient and hassle free mode of transport services in most of uptown areas and as well as some interior parts of the Srinagar city. Though E-buses are plying even on the routes connecting Srinagar with  adjoining Budgam district but the demand for the e-rickshaws is growing in the areas where they have not been introduced so for. Since passengers have not to wait too long for catching the E-Rickshaws and ask them to move in short time, the people prefer e-rickshaws than even e-buses in almost all parts of the Srinagar city. In view of the growing demand for e-rickshaw services from the areas where such transport services have not been introduced yet it is for the transport department to respond to the growing demands for e-rickshaws coming from several parts of uptown and as well as interior parts of Srinagar city. The expansion in the e-rickshaw services is also arising due to shortage of both e-buses and as well as conventional type of minibuses on most of the city roads in both uptown areas and as well as interior parts of Srinagar city. Amid complaints about disruptions in evening transport services coming from most of the parts of both uptown areas and as well as interior parts of Srinagar city the demand for e-rickshaw services is growing day after day and month after month. This fact can’t be ignored also that people stranded for hours together in the evening hours are over overcharged by the drivers of conventional type of auto-rickshaws and cabs in most parts of the Srinagar city.

“Since introduction of e-rickshaws won’t only smoothen the public transport services during day time in Srinagar city but it would also improve the evening transport services across Srinagar city, administrative wisdom demands that transport department sets a timeline for introducing e-rickshaw transport services in the areas where e-rickshaws are yet to be introduced for the purposes of smoothening the evening transport services besides hassle free passenger transport services in the day time. After all smoothening the evening transports services will also smoothen the travel of people to major health facilities during late evening hours in Srinagar city.”

Above all the demands for hassle free evening transport services are rising for hassle free travel of people to hospitals and nursing homes in the late evening hours. Ultimately the onus to curb the trends of overcharging by the drivers of both the conventional auto rickshaws and as well as cabs lies on traffic police department.  Since introduction of e-rickshaws won’t only smoothen the public transport services during day time in Srinagar city but it would also improve the evening transport services across Srinagar city, administrative wisdom demands that transport department sets a timeline for introducing e-rickshaw transport services in the areas where e-rickshaws are yet to be introduced for the purposes of smoothening the evening transport services besides hassle free passenger transport services in the day time. After all smoothening the evening transports services will also smoothen the travel of people to major health facilities during late evening hours in Srinagar city.
