Srinagar: Twenty-nine candidates have applied for the position of Director at SKIMS Soura, following the advertisement released last December.
An official said that the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) department had issued a notification inviting online applications from Indian Nationals for the Director’s post at SKIMS, Soura. The application window closed with a total of 29 submissions.
“These applications are currently under scrutiny by a Screening Committee appointed by the Health and Medical Education Department. The committee is evaluating the candidates based on prescribed qualifications and required experience,” he said.
Once the scrutiny process is complete, shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews or interactions, the official said, adding that the appointment of the new director is expected to be finalized by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, the Health and Medical Education Department has reconstituted the screening committee for scrutinizing the application forms.
According to an official order, the committee will be chaired by the Administrative Secretary of the Health & Medical Education Department. Other members include principals from Government Medical Colleges in Srinagar, Jammu, and Handwara, along with the Additional Director of SKIMS.
The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Governing Body will be the appointing authority for the Director’s post.
Candidates eligible for the position must hold a high postgraduate qualification in Medicine, Surgery, or Public Health as specified by the National Medical Commission. They should also have teaching and research experience of at least ten years, along with 25 years of professional experience.
The maximum age limit for candidates is 62 years as of January 1, 2023, with no relaxation. The appointment will be on a tenure basis for a maximum of five years or until the appointee reaches the age of 65, whichever comes earlier.
Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Koul, the current Director of SKIMS Soura, is retiring this month
