For all practical purposes the surge in enrolments at Government school demands improvement in the accommodation facilities like seating capacity of class rooms.
Amid reports about the increasing trends of the migration of students from Private to Government schools, the reports about insufficient accommodation facilities at high enrolment Government schools are lately triggering demands for suspending the merger of low enrolment schools with high enrolments schools besides immediate review of the accommodation facilities at schools witnessing a surge in enrolments across Jammu & Kashmir. Undoubtedly the Government reserves the right to take pride in the surge in enrolments whether it comes from the migration of the students from private schools or fresh enrolments in the backdrop of the enrolment drive of the School Education Department but the insufficient accommodation facilities at Government has thrown up some new challenges for the Government. For all practical purposes the surge in enrolments at Government school demands improvement in the accommodation facilities like seating capacity of class rooms and one of the strongest measures in this direction could be immediate suspension of the merger of low enrolment schools with high enrolment schools as this practice has also triggered the crisis of accommodation facilities at high enrolment Government schools during last two years. As the schools are about to open by Ist March, the review of the enrolment policy and the insufficient accommodation facilities of schools deserves and demands immediate attention of the Government ahead of the forthcoming examinations to be conducted by J&K Board of School Education (J&K BOSE) . Administrative wisdom demands immediate review of the enrolment policy at the highest level in view of the fact that admissions for classes upto 9th classes are likely to begin by March end immediately after the pronouncement of the results of the final examinations.

Interestingly the surge in enrolments also necessitates a review of the staff strength at high enrolment Government schools as not only the accommodation facilities and the strength of teaching staff but better recreational facilities are equally important for the growth and development of Government schools across Jammu & Kashmir”
Now the low enrolments is not as pressing an issue as is the reducing seating capacity in the classes at Government schools and as such the suspension of the merger of low enrolment schools with high enrolment schools could be one of strongest measures to reduce overcrowding in class rooms at Government schools recording surge in enrolments mostly due to surge in migration of students from private schools.
