Bandipora : Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shakeel Ul Rehman on Saturday visited upper stretches of Bandipora Gurez Road to take on spot assessment of ongoing snow clearance operations.
ADC Umar Shafi and other officers, accompanied the DC during the visit.
During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction on the snow clearance work as it was noted that the operation is going on in full-swing both from Gurez as well as Bandipora sides. Around 2.5 kms are cleared on a daily basis from each side.
Shakeel Ur Rehman said that the administration is fully committed to ensure safe and hassle free travel on Bandipora-Gurez road, and once the road is made traffic worthy, the movement of vehicles shall be regulated from both sides with proper safety measures.
He said that the visit is aimed to conduct a thorough review of snow clearance measures and to expedite the opening of Bandipora-Gurez road for vehicular traffic adding that only 15 km stretch is pending for clearance, which is expected to be cleared in the next few days subject to fair weather conditions.
The DC further said that both men and the machinery from BRO and MED are on job to ensure minimum disruption and restoration of the traffic on this stretch.
Gurez-Bandipora road was closed for vehicular traffic recently in view of heavy snowfall en route, and at present, the travel of people and medical emergencies are being facilitated through chopper services.
