New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the mobility sector will play a crucial role in achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.

Addressing a programme in India’s largest and first-of-its-kind mobility exhibition “Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024” at Bharat Mandapam here, Modi said “Today, India’s economy is expanding fast, and in our third term, our country is bound to become the third biggest economy in the world.”

Talking about the automobile industry and its expansion, PM Modi said, “In 10 years before 2014, around 12 crore vehicles were sold in the country. However, since 2014 more than 21 crore vehicles have been sold in the country”

He said 12 lakh electric vehicles have been sold in the last 10 years and around 60% growth has been registered in passenger vehicles”.

The Prime Minister said, “For your industry, the government has made the PLI scheme worth over Rs 25,000 crore. It’s playing a huge role in making our value chains self-reliant and strengthening the MSMEs in the country”.

This is the beginning of the golden period for the mobility sector in the country, the Prime Minister said and mentioned that the Expo’s tagline ‘Beyond Boundaries’ reflects the spirit of India.

“Today, we want to break old barriers and bring the whole world together. We want to expand India’s role in the world in global supply chains”, he said.

The Prime Minister also undertook a walkthrough of the Expo which showcases India’s capabilities across mobility and automotive value chains and will feature exhibitions, conferences, buyer-seller meets, state sessions, road safety pavilion, and public-centric attractions like go-karting.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the automotive industry of India for the grand event and praised the efforts of the exhibitors who showcased their products at the Expo.

The Prime Minister said that the organisation of an event of such grandeur and scale in the country fills him with delight and confidence.

Urging the people of Delhi to come and witness the expo, the Prime Minister said it brings the entire mobility and supply chain community on a single platform.

With over 800 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, the Expo will highlight cutting-edge technologies, sustainable solutions and breakthroughs in mobility.

The Expo will feature participation from over 28 vehicle manufacturers. About a thousand brands from over 13 global markets will showcase their complete range of products, technologies, and services at the event.

Along with the exhibition and conferences, the expo has lined up sessions for states to showcase regional contributions and initiatives to enable collaboration at both national and regional levels.

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal during his welcome address at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 said that for the first time mobility and its allied sectors, even startups associated with it, have come together on one stage. “India will emerge as the world’s largest EV market by 2030”, the minister said. He encouraged the stakeholders in the mobility sector to take charge and transform the automotive landscape into an efficient, sustainable and inclusive part of the country as envisioned by the Prime Minister.
