DC Kathua inaugurates 2-Day Pashu Mandi at Lakhanpur

Kathua : The Pashu Mandi an exhibition of livestock and animal products was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Rakesh Minhas at the Rinderpest Check Post here at Lakhanpur on Thursday.
The livestock Manid is aimed at promoting the trade of livestock and animal products in the region.
Speaking on the ocassion, the DC emphasized the importance of the livestock sector for the rural economy and expressed his hope that the event would facilitate the farming community to get quality livestock at one stop platform within Jammu and Kashmir. He said the event will also promote the dairy sector besides generating employment opportunities for the local people.
“The Pashu Mandi is an excellent initiative that provides a platform to farmers and traders to come together and promote the livestock sector. Through this event we hope to create awareness about modern animal husbandry practices and generate employment opportunities for the people in the region, “he added.
The Pashu Mandi is a platform for farmers, traders, and other stakeholders to showcase their products and interact with each other. The event is expected to draw a large number of visitors from across the region.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr Jugal Kishore Gupta said Mandi at Lakhanpur will be a regular affair to provide best breed of Livestock within the territory of Jammu and Kashmir and to save time and money of the farmers who otherwise have to venture out in other states to get quality Livestock. He said the ultimate aim was to provide new avenues to the farmers so that the object of doubling farmer’s income can be achieved.
The Inauguration of the fair was attended by senior officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, representatives from various farmer organizations, and members of the local community.
Pertinently, the ‘Pashu Mandi’ is a sequel to earlier editions of ‘Pashudhan Vyapar Mela’ which is a significant step towards promoting the livestock sector in the region and generating awareness about the importance of animal welfare and modern animal husbandry practices.
