Kishtwar: National Girl Child Day was celebrated on Wednesday in Kishtwar district here under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) witnessing participation of a large number women and students from local schools.
An impressive function organized by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with DLSA, ICDS, and the Education Department, featuring a myriad of activities including motivational lectures on the theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,’ a Nukkad Natak performance by girl students, and a musical presentation by child Singer Arohi Rana.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Inderjeet Singh Parihar was the chief guest while Dr. Rishi Kumar Sharma, District Programme Officer Poshan was the guest of honour.
The Officials of One Stop Centre & District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), DLSA, CCI’s, special cell for women, and Aanganwari workers. Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Kishtwar Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Paddar Chetna Sharma, Gender Specialist Shanu Rana and other staff members were also present.
DPO Poshan, in his welcome address, emphasized the significance of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” Campaign and highlighted the importance of National Girl Child Day celebrated annually on January 24.
Speakers highlighted the achievements of girls in different fields and government measures for social security and protection of women’s rights. The Chief Guest ADC felicitated several meritorious girls who excelled at the J&K and National levels.
Parents of Sheetal Devi, the world’s first armless archer and Arjuna awardee were specially invited and felicitated by the chief guest.
In his address, the ADC informed girl students about women and girl-centric initiatives and welfare schemes launched by the government He emphasized the importance of girls’ education for socio-economic uplift and gender equality.
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Pledge was administered, and the program concluded with a vote of thanks by Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Kishtwar Rajesh Kumar Sharma.
