Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam, Baramulla and Ganderbal district and also recovered psychotropic/contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Budgam, a police party of Police Post Narbal during routine naka checking at Sunderabad Narbal intercepted one Jehangir Ahmad Sheikh S/o Ab Rashid Sheikh R/o Sozieth Goripora who upon seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search, recovered semi grinded charas like substance weighing about 940gms and 80 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement also said that in a similar action at Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Uri headed by SHO Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Dani Syedan Uri, intercepted one Noor Hussain Shah S/o Mehboob Shah R/o Choolan Kalsan Uri and during search, 9.46 Kgs of contraband Cannabis Powder like substance was recovered from his possession.
Police in its statement further said that in Ganderbal also, Police Station Ganderbal received inputs through reliable sources that one Sajad Ahmad Sofi S/o Ghulam Hassan Sofi R/o Saloora Ganderbal is carrying contraband substance in his truck bearing registration No. JK03H-8638, adding therein that a special police team was constituted under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal and led by SHO Police Station Ganderbal intercepted the said truck near new Bus Stand Beehama and during search recovered 16 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate and seized in presence of Executive Magistrate First Class after which the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that all the said accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain custody , Police in it’s statement furthermore said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have also been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reassured them that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
