DC flags off Road Safety Awareness rally; urges public to prioritize safe driving

Jammu: Deputy Commissioner (DC), Sachin Kumar Vaishya, in presence of Transport Commissioner, J&K, Rajinder Singh Tara, Friday flagged-off an awareness rally from Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Gandhinagar as part of ongoing National Road Safety Month 2024.
Speaking at the event, the DC underscored the crucial need for strict adherence to traffic rules. He urged the public to prioritize safe driving and emphasized on precautionary measures such as wearing helmets, seat belts, and adhering to speed limits for the safety of all road users. The DC also stressed on educating drivers and pedestrians about necessary precautions. Recognizing the alarming rate of road traffic accidents and associated fatalities in the country, he stressed the importance of collective efforts to minimize such incidents.
Besides, the Deputy Commissioner administered the Road safety Pledge among the students, teachers and Motor Vehicles department officials.
During the event, Transport Commissioner, J&K, Rajinder Singh Tara specifically urged the youth to avoid rash driving, underscoring the need for responsible behaviour on the roads. He further asked the students to promote a culture of compliance with traffic regulations and foster safer driving habits, especially among the younger generation.
The rally that has about 250 students traversed through the Apsara road, Gandhi Nagar featuring displays of Road Safety messages to enhance awareness among the general public, finally culminated at Green belt, Gandhinagar where the participants were given refreshment.
Earlier, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra, formally welcomed the guests.
Among others, Chief Education Officer, Jammu J.K Padha, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (HQ) Rehana Tabbasam, JKAS, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Board of Inspection (Goods), Esha Chib, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Board Of Inspection (P), Kuldeep Singh, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Flying squad, Neeraj Sharma MVIs, Lecturers and large number of students were present on the occasion.
