Srinagar : The General Officer Commanding of Army’s Srinagar based sensitive 15 Corps Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai on Tuesday said ‘the situation in Kashmir is good, but yet there is a little distance that we have to move forward.”
The Corps Commander said that Kashmir is moving ahead and there are bright days and a very bright future ahead for the youth of Kashmir.
“…The situation is good. You heard our Army Commander (the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi) also spoke about it ( two days ago in Srinagar). The situation is good but yet there is a little distance that we have to move forward, ”Lt Gen Ghai told reporters in Baramulla after J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Gen. Bipin Rawat Sports Stadium.
The stadium on the outskirts of Baramulla town was renamed on Tuesday after the former Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat who along with his wife and 11 others lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on December 8, 2021.
Gen Rawat’s last stint in Kashmir was as the General Officer Commanding of the Baramulla based 19 Infantry Division. It was during this stint he became close to many people in Baramulla town.
Lt Gen Ghai termed the inauguration of the stadium a big day for the people of Baramulla and Army.
“I am sure that for the country, for the state of J&K, it is a very proud moment that a stadium has been named after General Bipin Rawat who not only commanded 19 Infantry Division but has a special place in the heart of people of J and K,” the Corps Commander said.
He said the Army would do whatever is required to improve the infrastructure of the stadium.
“We will definitely be involved in the improvement of the facilities for the stadium,” Lt Gen Ghai said.
