Historic Winter Cricket Championship concludes in Kupwara Distt

Amid dry, hot and humid weather, hundreds of people including men, women and children mostly bare foot visited the revered suffi Saint Shrine Sheikh Noor-Ud-Wali popularly known as Nund Resh at Charar-e- Sharief in Budgam district on Sunday for prayers to seek rainfall to end the drought season in Kashmir valley. Kupwara : The closing ceremony of Winter Cricket Championship, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports District Kupwara in collaboration with the District administration Kupwara culminated at Sports Stadium GalizooKupwara.
The competition was carried out at 4 designated venues vizGalizoo Stadium Kupwara, Sports Stadium HaqaniabadPunzwa, Sports Stadium Pandithpora, Langate and Sports Stadium ChamkootKarnah.
In the competition, 150 teams had thrown their hats into the ring to be the winner of the competition. Despite cold weather conditions, a huge number of teams took part in the competition. At all the designated venues, the championship was kicked off by the respective DDC members on 9th of December 2023.
The venues had been designed with the view to cater to the needs and aspirations of the sports loving fraternity of the District.
It is for the first time in the history of Kupwara that such a huge number of teams participated with zeal and zest in spite of bone chilling weather.
This all happened under the visionary directions of the District Development Commissioner Kupwara, MsAyushi Sudan
All the venues exhibited a festive look and palpable excitement from both players and Spectators alike throughout the course of competition.
The move of organizing such an extravaganza aimed to nurture sports talent and foster camaraderie among the youth of the District, besides, desisting them from being trapped in social evils.
The District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Zahoor Ahmed Wani channelized all available resources both men and material to make the event a successful one.
On the closing ceremony of the competition, the Chief Guest, District Development Commissioner, AyushiSudhan hailed the department of Youth Services & Sports for culminating the event successfully.
Vice chairman DDC Council Haji Farooq Ahmad, ADC Kupwara, GhNabiBhat, DDC Drugmulla Ms. Aamina and other officials of District Administration also witnessed the programme.
The final Match was played between Town 11Kupwara and GanaporaLangate.
Town 11 defeated Ganapora by a margin of 54 runs. Qaisar Ahmad was adjudged man of the series for his best performance in the tournament.
