2 drug peddlers held in Kulgam , Heroin-like substance also seized : Police

Kulgam: Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers at a checkpoint and also seized a contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Police said that a police team, led by Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Qazigund, in collaboration with Incharge Police Post Mirbazar, established a checkpoint at Alstop Chowk where the team intercepted a vehicle bearing Registration No. JK14B-2204, with two individuals on board who were arrested and identified as Aabid Hussain Peer, son of Peer Sirajudin, R/O Soaf Shali, Anantnag, and Sohail Ahmad Wani,S/O Mohd Abass Wani, R/O Dhamal Anantnag.
Stating that upon thorough checking, law enforcement officers found approximately 5 grams of a substance resembling Heroin, deemed as a contraband substance, in the possession of the said accused who were promptly arrested and transferred to Police Station Qazigund, where they currently remain in custody, Police in it’s statement further said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized and a case under FIR No. 05/2024, encompassing relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Qazigund, marking the commencement of a comprehensive investigation.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to remain vigilant and report drug peddling or criminal activities at the nearest police establishment or dial112, reiterating therein that the cooperation from people is instrumental in the collaborative effort to combat the menace of drugs. Police in it’s statement also reiterated the commitment that stringent actions shall be taken against criminals in accordance with the law, reinforcing the commitment to creating a safer and drug-free society.
