Cross-cultural interactions vital in shaping global citizens of tomorrow: VC KU

Srinagar : To promote educational excellence and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for India’s rich heritage and cultural diversity among the youth, the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Kashmir University (KU), is organising an educational-cum-cultural exchange programme under the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ initiative.
The Kashmir University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, flagged off the contingent from KU Youth Club to facilitate students to engage in interactive sessions, educational and cultural exchange programmes scheduled to take place in Delhi and Hyderabad.
The contingent, comprising 25 students from various KU departments and satellite campuses, will visit educational institutions, historical sites and cultural heritage places.
Cultural Officer, DSW, KU, Shahid Ali Khan, Section Officer DSW, KU, Manzoor Ahmad and Lady Sports Assistant, , Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, KU, Surjeet Kour are accompanying the students.
Encouraging the students to explore destinations beyond Jammu and Kashmir, Prof Nilofer Khan said the initiative embodies the spirit of academic enrichment and cross-cultural exchange, providing a platform for students to broaden their horizons and immerse themselves in diverse learning experiences.
“Such exchanges play a vital role in shaping global citizens of tomorrow. It’s not just about academic knowledge but also about cultivating an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and experiences,” she said, urging the students to uphold discipline and commitment.
KU Registrar, Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, said the programme aligns with the varsity’s commitment to holistic development and intercultural understanding.
“We always support and facilitate initiatives that go beyond traditional education, encouraging students to embrace different cultures, ideas and perspectives,” he said.
In her message, Dean, Students Welfare, KU, Prof Aneesa Shafi, said that the DSW acts as a platform for nurturing student talent while sharing the timelines of various events planned for 2024.
Joint Registrar, Budget and Special Secretary to VC, Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zari pledged full financial support to student welfare activities and infrastructural enhancement.
Acknowledging and appreciating the artists who participated in a week-long art camp organised by the DSW, the vice chancellor, registrar, joint registrar and other KU officers visited an art exhibition of canvas paintings and later felicitated the participants by presenting certificates and awards to them.
Cultural Officer, DSW, Shahid Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the event.
