Srinagar : The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (J&KACB) on Friday said that it has arrested a member of the Blocj Development Coucil in Ganderbal and caught him red handed for accepting bribe of Rs 10,000/-.
In a statement issued here on Friday the J&K ACB said that a complainant approached it with a written complaint against public servants namely Majid Aziz, District Mineral Officer Ganderbal and Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, BDC Member, alleging therein that they demanded bribe for issuance of disposal permit. The ACB in it’s statement further said “ the complainant alleged in his complainant said that he is an authorized material supplier and sought disposal permit from DMO Ganderbal after completing all procedural formalities but the issuance of permit was delayed on one or the other pretext”.
The complainant further claimed that on approaching DMO Ganderbal Majid Aziz he was asked to visit BDC member Gowhat Ahmad and do whatever he demands following which he approached Gowhar Ahmad who demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 for the issuance of document out of which ₹10,000 was to be paid in advance here on Friday.
The Complainant told ACB that he chose not to pay bribe and instead approached the top anti-graft body for taking legal action against the accused public servant as provided under law. Stating that on receiving of the complaint, a Case FIR No. 01/2024 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation taken up, the J&K ACB in it’s statement further said that a trap team was constituted which laid a successful trap and caught the accused BDC member red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant and the money was recovered from the accused identified as Gowhar Ahmad Reshi S/o Sonaullah Reshi R/o Safapora Ganderbal, BDC Member on spot, adding therein that he role of DMO Majid Aziz in the matter is being investigated. The Anti Corruption Bureau J&K in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people not to pay bribe to any public servant and in the event of demand of bribe by any public servant, approach ACB J&K immediately.
