Thrissur(Kerala): Virtually sounding poll bugle for the coming Lok Sabha poll, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lashed out at the Congress and left parties in Kerala for creating impediments in implementing several projects for the development of the state.
Addressing a mammoth rally of women at the sprawling Thekkinkadu Maidan in the heart of Thrissur town, Modi said the INDIA alliance have a common agenda of defeating BJP. They have no interest in taking the country forward. Both the Congress and the Left are not interested in implementing any developmental projects beneficial to the common people.
Whether it is Highways, Airport or Railways, the State government is not cooperating with the central government, he said. Most of the time he devoted his speech for various developments undertaken by his government. The Congress which ruled many years never thought of passing the women’s reservation bill. It was only the BJP government which succeeded in passing the bill in Parliament.
The Left party has hurt the feeling of the people in the Sabarimala issue and also Thrissur Pooram lovers. The conduct of world famous Thrissur pooram was in suspense because of the stand taken by the ruling Left party.
Many unpleasant scenes during the Sabarimala season last time were a creation of the Left party.
Like that they tried to create some hurdles in the smooth conduct of Pooram which has hurt the feeling of many, the PM said.
Repeatedly telling the women gathering that it is “Modi guarantee” that his government wanted to give them economic and social upliftment.
During his 40-minute speech, he also touched upon a reception he hosted at his residence for the Christian leaders who gave them full support for the developmental works of his government.
There was strong criticism from the Left party leaders in Kerala for hosting such a reception in the wake of Manipur incidents, where Christians were affected.
The rally which was attended by more than two lakh women and an equal number of men is being viewed as BJP’s election campaign for the Lok Sabha poll.
Modi said Sthree Shakthi Karanam (Empowerment of women) is the basic thing which can take the country to progress.
“Modi will also give guarantee to security, safety and your economic self reliance”, the Prime Minister told them amid great applause.
On his arrival in the town, a road show was conducted in which he stood atop a jeep and waved thousands of people on both sides of the one km route to the venue of rally.
Textile entrepreneur Beena Kannan, Actor Sobha, Singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi Cricketer Minnu Mani, and 78-year0old Mariakutty and P T Usha, MP shared the dais with the Prime Minister.
BJP has identified Thrissur as a priority constituency and former MP Suresh Gopi is certain that he will contest the election.
State BJP President K Surendran and Suresh Gopi also shared dais with Mr Modi.
