The real testing time is yet to come for the authorities of Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) more intensely in villages and semi-urban areas than Srinagar city and major towns in Kashmir valley.
Though improvement in power supply after additional allocation of 792 MWs to Kashmir Valley from the Northern Power Grid Corporation Of India almost a fortnight ago has unprecedentedly reduced the public outcry against unscheduled power cuts in Srinagar city and several other urban areas of Kashmir Valley but the real challenge for Kashmir Power Development Corporation (KPDCL) has started with the rise in complaints about unscheduled power cuts from most of the villages and semi-urban areas of Kashmir immediately after the commencement of the harshest 40 day period of winter “Chilla-i-Kalan” just few days ago. From now onwards maintaining scheduled power supply with zero tolerance against unscheduled power cuts after a major snowfall expected on the eve of the new year celebrations on 31st December and Ist January would be a testing time for the authorities of Kashmir Power Development Corporation (KPDCL). The time when people hope for the best but also expect some disturbances in power supply in the wake of any major snowfall between 31st December and Ist January this winter, the real testing time is yet to come for the authorities of Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) more intensely in villages and semi-urban areas than Srinagar city and major towns in Kashmir valley. Since the complaints of unscheduled power cuts coming from most of the villages and several urban areas of Kashmir Valley are heading to no dead end, the challenge for KPDCL authorities has begun with it’s response to allegations of unscheduled power cuts in villages and semi-urban areas of Kashmir still awaited.
“To take stock of the rising public grievances on alleged imbalances in power cuts it is the time for KPDCL authorities to seek factual reports about the allegations of unscheduled power cuts in villages and semi-urban areas of Kashmir Valley from the heads of KPDCL Divisions and Sub Division for the purposes of appropriate interventions. The public outcry against allegations of unscheduled power cuts as such not only demands immediate attention of Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) but also it’s immediate intervention for the purposes of reducing alleged imbalances in the distribution of power during harshest period of winter “ Chilla-i-Kalan” in Kashmir valley.”
As the response of the KPDCL authorities on this count is yet to come, the immediate attention and intervention of both the Chief Engineer Distribution KPDCL and as well as Managing Director KPDCL would hopefully bring long lasting respite to the hapless population in villages and semi-urban areas across Kashmir much before any major snowfall leads to any unprecedented rise in power curtailments across Kashmir.
