Srinagar : The Srinagar Smart City Advisory Forum (SSCAF) convened on Tuesday at the TRC Meeting Hall, Srinagar, drawing participation from key stakeholders.
Member of Parliament (LS), Dr. Farooq Abdullah, alongside representatives from various government departments, technical experts, traders’ fraternity, and members of civil society, contributed to the vibrant discussion.
CEO Athar Aamir Khan of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) provided a comprehensive overview of both completed and ongoing projects undertaken by SSCL during a recent presentation. He underscored the transformative changes witnessed in key areas of Srinagar city, notably the Jhelum Riverfront, Central Business District (CBD) Lal Chowk, Polo High Street, and MA Road. These spaces, once neglected, have now evolved into vibrant hubs of social and business activities, fostering a thriving atmosphere in Srinagar.
One of the focal points of the presentation was the successful revitalization of Dal Lake Front, where a continuous 5.10km cycle track has been established along the pristine lakeside. This development has significantly enhanced the appeal of the Dal Lakefront, attracting numerous visitors well into the late evening, and contributing to its newfound vibrancy.
Furthermore, the CEO, SSCL highlighted the ongoing initiatives in Shehr-e-Khaas, emphasizing its pivotal role in Srinagar’s development. SSCL’s primary focus has been the enhancement of heritage markets within Shehr-e-Khaas and the improvement of main access streets and roads leading to this area. Key access corridors such as Dalgate-Gojwara Road, Nallah-Mar Road, streets adjacent to Jamia Masjid, Maharaj Gunj, Zaina Kadal Market, Ali Kadal, Nawakadal, and Jamalhatta are undergoing comprehensive renewal. These interventions encompass various facets like undergrounding electric and telecom utilities, road surface enhancements, placemaking at junctions, provision of public amenities, shared pedestrian streets, improved drainage and sewer networks, and facade improvements of heritage buildings. These concerted efforts are poised to revive the grandeur of Shehr-e-Khaas in the near future.
Moreover, CEO , SSCL emphasized SSCL’s diligent efforts to reinstate water transport as a public transportation service in Srinagar City, underscoring the commitment toward a holistic and inclusive urban transportation system for the city’s residents.
The session involved in-depth deliberations on the progress of SSCL’s various initiatives. Subsequently, participants shared valuable suggestions, views, and inputs, all diligently noted by the Srinagar Smart City team. The unwavering support expressed by the attendees towards SSCL’s endeavours for the timely and successful completion of the projects was acknowledged.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks extended to all participants. The active collaboration and dedication of line departments, diverse organizations, traders’ fraternity, members of civil society, and the hard work of the Srinagar Smart City Limited team were recognized and appreciated.
