Srinagar: In a landmark development, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has given the go-ahead for the construction of the Parimpora-Shalteng Flyover. This announcement represents a significant stride towards resolving the persistent traffic congestion issues plaguing the region, offering a beacon of hope for improved connectivity and overall development. The Parimpora-Shalteng corridor, a vital transportation link in Srinagar, plays a crucial role in connecting major roads such as Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, and other significant locations to the heart of the city. The chronic traffic congestion in this area has long been a concern for residents and commuters, prompting the eagerly awaited approval for the construction of the flyover.
The approval from the Central Government has garnered praise from the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their unwavering support in advancing this crucial infrastructure project. LG Sinha emphasized two key aspects of the Parimpora-Shalteng Flyover project. Firstly, its potential to boost connectivity to Sonamarg, a renowned tourist destination, holds the promise of bolstering tourism in the region. Secondly, by easing traffic congestion, the flyover is expected to facilitate smoother travel for the residents of north Kashmir, enhancing their daily lives.
“Grateful to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji & Hon’ble MORTH Sh Nitin Gadkari Ji for assistance to a key infra project that will boost connectivity to Sonmarg & approval to vital Parimpora-Shalteng Flyover to ease traffic congestion & make travel smoother for people of North Kashmir,” said the Office of J&K LG in acknowledgment of the government’s commitment to regional development.
This approval underscores the collaborative effort between the central and regional administrations to address the infrastructural needs of the area. The Parimpora-Shalteng Flyover project exemplifies a vision of creating an integrated and well-connected region capable of harnessing its full potential for growth and development. The positive ripple effects of such infrastructure projects extend beyond immediate convenience, contributing to economic development, job creation, and an overall enhancement of the quality of life for the residents.
As the news of the Parimpora-Shalteng Flyover approval spread through the local community, many locals told Kashmir Horizon that they are happy about this development. Nahida Jan, a local, told KH that she has been stuck in traffic jams on this road many times. To cross this section is like a daily struggle just to get to work on time. “This flyover is a game-changer for us, a ray of hope that our commutes might finally become stress-free,” she said. Umar Fayaz, a local shop owner, shared his optimism for the impact on businesses. “Our shops have suffered because of the traffic snarls. Customers often avoid the area altogether. With this flyover, maybe we can finally welcome more customers without them worrying about getting caught in traffic.” “This flyover will not only make commuting easier for us but also create jobs during its construction. It’s a win-win for everyone.” Another local said that infrastructure projects like the Parimpora-Shalteng Flyover aren’t just about roads; they are about uplifting the entire community. It is heartening to see our city evolve, and I believe this is just the beginning. “This collaboration between the center and the region is what we need. It’s reassuring to see our leaders working together for the greater good. The flyover is a symbol of unity and progress,” he added.
