Dozens of people are arrested on charges of involvement in illegal mining activities week after week both in Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division but unfortunately illegal mining activities continue with the intensity they were going on four years ago

With Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo simultaneously calling for stringent actions against illegal mining activities and increasing the permits for supply of construction materials to both public and private building operators the Government has initiated a balancing act  against illegal mining for the purposes of hassle free construction activities in Jammu & Kashmir. Though police and the mining departments carry out joint operations against the illegal mining activities across Jammu & Kashmir and dozens of people are arrested on charges of involvement in illegal mining activities week after week both in Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division but unfortunately illegal mining activities continue with the intensity they were going on four years ago. Since commercial transport operators mostly carry out illegal mining activities for supplying construction material both to private builders and as well as the contractors executing developmental works allotted to them by different departments from time to time, the illegal mining activities would mostly likely reduce if permits for construction materials are increased for the purposes of hassle free construction activities almost in every area across Jammu & Kashmir. Such a practice won’t only reduce the increasing intensity of illegal mining activities but would also mostly likely bring down the rising prices of construction materials across Jammu & Kashmir. This balancing act once put into practices under the directions of Chief Secretary and supervision of the top brass of police and mining departments will bring long lasting respite to both the private builders and as well as the contractors executing developmental works allotted to them by different departments from time to time in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division.

“The shift in policy by the Chief Secretary  won’t only bring to an end the increasing trends of illegal mining activities in Jammu & Kashmir but would also further the causes of hassle free supply of  construction material to both private builders and as well as the contractors executing developmental works allotted to them from time to time. What matters the most the change in the practices and procedures for the sanction of permits for supply of construction materials will most likely generate more and more livelihood opportunities for the locals in their own areas and resultantly local economy will get a major boost in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.”

The practice would  bring down with more greater intensity the increasing intensity of illegal mining activities if Chief Secretary and Secretary Mining Department hold monthly review meetings both on actions against illegal mining activities and as well as the practices and procedures adopted for increasing the permits for supply of construction material across Jammu & Kashmir. The shift in policy by the Chief Secretary  won’t only bring to an end the increasing trends of illegal mining activities in Jammu & Kashmir but would also further the causes of hassle free supply of  construction material to both private builders and as well as the contractors executing developmental works allotted to them from time to time. What matters the most the change in the practices and procedures for the sanction of permits for supply of construction materials will most likely generate more and more livelihood opportunities for the locals in their own areas and resultantly local economy will get a major boost in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.
