2-day seminar on ‘Awareness generation & Conservation of threatened Medicinal plants’ commences at Bandipora

Bandipora : Kashmir Environmental and Social Organisation (KESO) Bandipora, in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora on Wednesday organised a two-day seminar focusing on awareness generation and conservation of medicinal species, with a special emphasis on threatened medicinal plants through market intervention.
The programme was inaugurated virtually by Director ISM, Dr Mohan Sing in presence of Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak besides ADC Bandipora Umar Shafi and a galaxy of participants including farmer community of the district.
The event was organised to highlight the importance of preserving our rich biodiversity, specifically focusing on medicinal flora critical to both traditional and modern healthcare practices.
On the occasion, expert sessions were held wherein experts in the field conducted sessions on the importance of medicinal plant conservation and sustainable practices.
During the programme, workshops to provide participants with hands-on experience in identifying, cultivating, and preserving threatened medicinal plants were also held.
In addition to conservation of the medicinal plants, the participants were sensitized about the practices of cultivation of medicinal plants besides making them aware regarding their market values.
Chairperson KESO Bandipora, Shabnam Kausar said that the program includes community outreach activities in order to raise awareness about the significance of medicinal plant conservation.
She added that by creating awareness and actively involving communities, we can contribute to the preservation of our valuable medicinal plant species.
Among others, officials, local citizens, self help groups besides members of the organisation were also present on the occasion.
