CHRI holds one day CME on PMTPT at GMC Baramulla

Baramulla : Centre for Health Research and Innovation- CHRI on Tuesday organized a one day CME on Programmatic Management of Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment- PMTPT at Government Medical College Baramulla.
CHRI in collaboration with department of chest medicine GMC baramulla organized a one day CME on programmatic management of tuberculosis preventive treatment under project JEET- Joint Effort For Elimination of Tuberculosis a Global Fund supported Project. PMTPT is a novel concept in management of tuberculosis and an important component of national strategic plan NSP (2017-2025) of National Tuberculosis Elimination Program. The CME was attended by Professor Dr Naveed Nazir Chairman State Task Force committee NTEP J&K, Professor Dr Ruby Reshi Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi Medical superintendent AHGMC Baramulla, Heads of departments of medical college, senior faculty members, PG students and NTEP officials.
Dr Shumail Bashir Associate Professor and Nodal Officer NTEP GMC baramulla gave a detailed presentation on PMTPT and discussed in detail the treatment algorithm to screen the high risk population and importance of contact tracing of active tuberculosis patients.
Dr Shumail presented the figured regarding the patients notified from GMC Baramulla and the TPT initiation among the eligible household contacts of pulmonary TB patients. Dr Wasim iqbal Assistant Professor Pediatrics gave a brief presentation on the importance of PMTPT program and discussed in detail the challenges in diagnosing of TB among the children.
Dr Naveed Nazir Shah chairman state task committee NTEP in his key note adress discussed in detail the challenges in management of tuberculosis and importance of the Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment TPT among the high risk population. Dr Naveed stressed upon the working doctors to adopt the PMTPT guidelines to screen the high risk population for latent Tuberculosis. Dr Naveed discussed about the importance of screening of Household contacts of pulmonary TB patients and initiation of TPT among the eligible contacts. Professor Dr Ruby Reshi Principal GMC Baramulla in her inaugural address complemented the organisers for organising the CME on an important national interest public health program to update and enrich the faculty members with the latest advances in diagnostic and treatment services under national tuberculosis elimination program.
Professor Dr Abdul Majid Chairman TB Core Committee GMC baramulla discussed in detail about the efforts being undertaken to sensisitize the community on tuberculosis prevention measures and the outreach health programs conducted in several places.
Kifayat wani District supervisor Project JEET gave a detailed presentation regarding the efforts made to implement the PMTPT program in district baramulla.
The session ended with a question answer session and felicitation of participants.
