Lucknow: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday asked the doctors to create awareness on lifestyle for a healthy heart as it would benefit hundreds and thousands of people as compared to those treated in the hospitals.

While addressing an event of Divine Heart Foundation here in Lucknow, the President said, “There is a proverb which is very correct that prevention is better than cure. I urge all the doctors associated with heart care to create awareness on the lifestyle for a healthy heart.”

Defence Minister and local MP Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak were present on the occasion.

The President said, “When you (doctors) treat in a hospital, you treat 100, 200 or 500 people, but when you ensure prevention as a campaign you can benefit hundreds and thousands of people. I hope that you will pay special attention to preventive heart care and provide better medical services to the countrymen.”

She said that we all have to build a healthy and prosperous Indian. Praising Lucknow, she said that she likes to come to Lucknow.

The President said, “The morning of Banaras and the evening of Awadh are very famous. Today I was in Banaras in the morning and in the evening in Lucknow, here people use we instead of I, it feels very good.”

Speaking on the occasion Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that good health is an important basis of the progress of any person, society or nation. “Acknowledging the importance of health is very important for us. It is very necessary to increase awareness towards it and providing medical services to the people is very important,” he said.

He said that with reference to India, having a population of around 140 crore people, this is highly applicable. “Because the more the population, the possibility of health related problems is higher as compared to other countries. Therefore after 2014 when our government came to power under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi we have undertaken the work of developing the country as a healthy nation,” he said.

Rajnath said that the government has strengthened the creation of basic health infrastructure by constructing 15 new AIIMS and a large number of medical colleges. “We have provided health insurance care of Rs 5 lakh annually to 12 crore families in the country under Ayushman Bharat scheme,” he said.

He said that in order to ensure that the middle class and poor can get cheap and generic medicines Jan Aushadhi Kendras has also been set up. “But at the same time I also want to highlight that in such an enormous country health related necessities could not be fulfilled only by the government’s efforts and for that it is necessary for non-government institutions to come forward,” he said.

The Defence Minister said that the government and non-government sector can together take the level of health to a new height.
