Srinagar: The upper reaches of Gulmarg, Pir Panchal Range including Sinthan Top experienced light snowfall on later Wednesday afternoon while the weather remained mostly cloudy across the Valley with the weatherman predicting light to moderate rains at several places tomorrow.
Reports reaching here said some upper reaches have received light snowfall in the later afternoon today, which include the world’s famous ski-resort, Sinthan Top and other Pir Panchal areas.
However, at most places in the Valley, the weather remained cloudy throughout the day with occasional sunshine in the afternoon.
Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at many places with thunderstorm & lightning while light snowfall is also expected over middle and higher reaches of J&K tomorrow.
He added that there is no forecast of any major wet spell, but the weather would remain mostly cloudy from December 01- December 08.
Ahmad also stated that the temporary disruption of surface transportation over hilly areas and important passes like Zojila, Sinthan Pass, Mughal road etc is also expected during this evening to 1st December forenoon.
Nonetheless, the night temperature plummeted across Kashmir after two days of improvement.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir & Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 0.8 degree Celsius, the data prepared by MeT said.
In Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the mercury settled below freezing point at minus 1.5 degree Celsius and 1.8 degree Celsius respectively.
In Kupwara and Kokernag, the mercury settled at 1.3 degree Celsius and 2.6 degree Celsius respectively
