3-day Workshop for Secondary School Students Concludes at IUST

Awantipora: The Department of English Language and Literature, IUST concludes its three-day Workshop on English Language Skills held for Secondary School students under university’s Community Outreach Programme.
The workshop apart from training the students in the four basic skills of English Language, aimed at reducing learning anxiety among the students by providing them an opportunity to learn skills in a fun and activity filled manner. The workshop in addition to this, aimed at fostering independent learning and participation attitude among the students. Another area of focus of the workshop was to encourage students to integrate various linguistic skills in a fruitful manner.
Besides having theoretical and practical sessions regarding various skills, the students visited the University library and other facilities of the University. The students were also provided hands-on training in Language Learning Software in the department’s Language Lab.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Outreach Prof. Lily Want congratulated the department for organising the workshop and regarded workshops. She deliberated upon how educational institutions, in particular universities must acquire Transformative Competence so that students are able to apply their knowledge and learning in changing circumstances and practical situations. Dr.Munejah Khan, Head Department of English and Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences underlined the importance of conducting such workshops and laid stress on having more such programmes in the future in order to build a strong and healthy relationship between IUST and the local community. She encouraged students to improve their language skills by practising as possible, as language is not taught but caught by practising more and more.
During the workshop coordinated by Dr FurrukhFaizan Mir, Departmental Coordinator Outreach, other faculty members from the Department of English also deliberated
