Jammu: The National Disaster Response Force along with other stakeholders, including State Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence, Fire Services Department and Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a mock exercise on flood water rescue in the district.
The practical mock exercise was demonstrated at a pond in Kot Bhalwal in the presence of Assistant Commissioner (General) Manisha, Assistant Commissioner Development, Preeti Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrates and other officers.
The mock exercise was held for two days to test the preparedness and coordination of the stakeholder agencies involved in disaster management. A tabletop exercise on flood water rescue was organised in the Deputy Commissioner’s office yesterday, which was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Seointra.
Around 500 people, including students of Government Higher Secondary School Kot Bhalwal, witnessed the mock exercise. The NDRF team demonstrated various techniques and skills of flood water rescue, such as boat operation, life jacket use, rope rescue, casualty evacuation, first aid etc.
The mock exercise was aimed at enhancing the capacity and response of the district administration and other agencies in case of any flood situation. It also created awareness among the public about the dos and don’ts during floods.
The NDRF team also interacted with the students and the public and answered their queries regarding disaster management. They also distributed pamphlets and stickers on flood safety tips.
The mock exercise was appreciated by the district administration and the public for its professionalism and effectiveness. The NDRF team was also thanked for its valuable service to the nation.
