Moscow: The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense system had shot down a Ukrainian drone over the Russian western region of Smolensk Region on Wednesday.
“On November 15, at about 7:30 a.m. Moscow time [04:30 GMT], an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack by an aircraft-type UAV on targets on the territory of the Russian Federation was stopped. Air defense systems on duty destroyed a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle over the territory of the Smolensk Region,” the ministry said in a statement.
Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. President Vladimir Putin has said the operation aims to “protect people subjected to genocide by the Kiev regime.”
According to the president, the ultimate goal of the operation is to liberate Donbas from the control of Ukraine and create conditions that guarantee Russia’s security.
