SKUAST-K distributes high-quality wheat seeds among tribal farmers of Ang, Kulgam

Srinagar : Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir held two awareness-cum-wheat seeds distribution programs for the tribal farmers of Kulgam and Anantnag districts here on Tuesday.
The programs were organised by the Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops (MRCFC), Khudwani under the Tribal Sub Plan for wheat for tribal farmers of the two districts. The events featured the distribution of high-quality seed of SKUAST-K developed Shalimar Wheat-2, along with Trichoderma bio-agent. The program aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of tribal communities.
Associate Director Research, Dr Najeeb-Ul-Rehman Sofi, Head KVK-Kulgam, DrManzoor A Ganie, senior scientist DrFayaz A Mohiddin, scientists from MRCFC- Khudwani and KVK, Kulgam and about 50 tribal farmers participated in the programs.
At Kulgam, the program was held on Monday, in collaboration with KVK-Kulgam, while a similar event was conducted on Tuesday for the tribal farmers of Anantnag at MRCFC, Khudwani. ADR emphasized the crucial role of high-quality seeds and modern agricultural practices for increased crop production and profitability, urging farmers to adopt contemporary scientific methodologies for sustainable agricultural practices.
Dr FA Mohiddin discussed the significance of Trichoderma in managing soil-borne diseases and ensuring long-term soil health sustainability. He also shared insights on prevalent diseases and pests in tribal areas of the Kashmir valley and suggested eco-friendly control measures.
DrManzoor A Ganie expressed gratitude to tribal farmers for their active participation and encouraged them to diligently follow SKUAST-K’s advisories for optimal results in their agricultural pursuits.
