SKUAST-K organises two entrepreneurship awareness programs

Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir on Saturday organised two entrepreneurship awareness programs on Saturday at Budgam and Baramulla districts under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office SKUAST-K here, the training programs were aimed at sensitizing and building an entrepreneurial mindset among the farmers and youth to develop their skills.
SKUAST-K’s Division of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura conducted an awareness programme on ‘Management of Physiological Disorders of Fruit Trees’ to undergraduate students at Govt. Degree College Bomia, Baramulla.
The second awareness program was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Budgam on ‘Composting Methods for Organic Waste Decomposition’ for women farmers of the Kanihama area of district Budgam.
Dr Nazir Ahmad, coordinator of the former training programme highlighted the management of physiological disorders and other horticulture practices for quality production of temperate fruits. Prof Ghulam Irshad Hassan deliberated on the management of alternate bearing to mitigate the low production problems during the off year.
In the composting awareness program, Dr Shaista Nazirm assistant professor, Soil Science SKUAST-K, Shalimar deliberated upon the process of compost making and gave a detailed presentation on Composting as a resourceful way to recycle degradable organic waste sustainably which can reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides. The coordinator of the programme Dr Shazia Ramzan (SMS Soil Science, KVK Budgam) stressed on environmental benefits of composting. Composting is a sustainable practice that transforms organic waste into nutrient-rich soil conditioners.
