GDC Marh observes National Education Day

Jammu : To celebrate the birth anniversary of MaulanaAbulKalam Azad, the first Education Minister of Independent India, Government Degree College Marhon Saturday observed National Education Day in virtual mode under the supervision of Principal of the college Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul.
The principal emphasized the need to connect with elders, reduce the screen time and celebrate forthcoming Diwali by not creating air, water, sound pollution as the air pollution deteriorates the health of senior citizens. The theme of the programme selected was Embracing Innovation which highlights the significance of innovative approaches to promote creative forward thinking teaching methods.
Under the mentioned theme HOD department of Education Dr. Ashu Jolly initiated a new project “EACH ONE TEACH ONE ADULT ILLITERATE” where in all the students of different semesters/ department gave basic literacy to the adults at their homes and locality and boosted them to have self confidence among themselves as citizen of democratic country Bharat. They were also motivated to become active learners in the basic skills of a healthy life. The data regarding the problems faced by adults in the society as illiterate was also collected and it was decided that the college shall continue the project, initiated, seeking help from local administration also. The adults, especially females, actively participated and cooperated and had basic learning.
Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul congratulated the HOD Education and all the students for this innovative approach and becoming responsible citizens of society, locality and family. The local areas in the periphery of the college covered under this project include GhouManhasan, Bhadrore, Thub, Dhateryal, Gajansoo, Nagbani, Plasran and Sangrampur.
The students who actively imparted literacy to their elders are Priya Sharma of village Karloop, Priyanka of village Thub, ManshaMeenia roll no 112 Istsem, PallviJagotra roll no 9 Istsem, Ritika 3rd sem, Abhay Singh JamwalIstsem, RaveenaKousarroll no 2, Rahul Istsem, KetanIstsem, VanshikaBhagat roll no 104, KhushiChoudhary roll no 4 Istsem and Damini Sharma Ist sem.
