Srinagar : A newly recruited militant was on Thursday killed in an encounter in Kathohalan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.
A senior police officer said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in Kathohalan area. He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the militant fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
“During the exchange of fire, a militant who had joined TRF only this month, was killed while a search operation was ongoing in the area,” he said. The slain militant has been identified as Mysar Ahmad Dar from Vishro Shopian.
In a post on micro blogging social networking site “X” formerly called twitter Kashmir Zone Police said that one militant affiliated with TRF militant outfit was killed, adding therein that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered.
A police spokesperson in a statement issued here on Thursday said that acting on specific information regarding the presence of militants in village Kathohalan area of district Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Shopian Police and Army (02 Rajput) in the said area.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.” Spokesperson said.
*In the ensuing encounter, 01 local militant identified as Maiser Ahamd Dar @Adil son of Ghulam Nabi Dar resident of Vishroo Payeen, linked with TRF militant outfit was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” he added.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the spokesman added.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any
