IRCS starts in Jammu health, hygiene prog for girl students, free tea services for GMC patients, other welfare initiatives

Jammu: In continuation to its public welfare endeavors, the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K has taken the first of its kind initiative by adopting female students of 9th and 10th class of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu by providing Sanitary Napkins and offered Menstrual Hygiene lecture to them and this initiative will continue in other schools as well.
These efforts can help to ensure that girls have access to the necessary resources to manage their menstrual health with dignity and comfort. Menstrual hygiene education is also crucial in dispelling myths and promoting a better understanding of menstruation, reducing stigma, and fostering a supportive environment for girls and women.
The camp was inaugurated by Poonam Sharma, the Principal of the School.
The lectures were delivered by Dr. KavitaNijohn and Dr. Aasia Noor, Medical Officers. In the end, Poonam Sharma thanked the team of Red Cross and said that this kind of initiative can have a positive impact on the lives of adopted girls and promote their overall well-being and confidence. It is important to continue such efforts to empower girls and women in their journey towards a healthy and hygienic Menstrual Cycle.

Meanwhile the IRCS has started Free Tea Services. As the winter season has begun, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K has started an initiative to provide free tea service outside the Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for the patients and their attendants admitted there. The move is widely appreciated by the people.
Youth and Volunteer Programmes:- A substantial portion of the membership of Indian Red Cross Society is made up of young people. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable section of the society within their local communities through Red Cross youth Programmes. Indian Red Cross Society, J&K took an initiative to establish Red Cross Youth Units in every college of J&K. The main objective of this initiative is to conduct social and health awareness programmes and to encourage the youth to extend their humanitarian services to the society during peace time as well as any man made or natural disaster. A camp was organized in GovernmentMaulana Azad Memorial College, Jammu.
A camp was held on MAM College campus which was inaugurated by inaugurated by Dr. Sanjay Karlupia, the College Principal in presence of Dr. Aasia Noor, Medical Officer, Kanchan Devi, Sup Pharmacist and VironicaMarwah, Field Officer, IRCS, J&K.
In the first half of the session, the students were apprised about the benefits of Youth Red Cross, how different programs and activities can be organised by the youth so that the leadership qualities among the students can be inculcated. The students were briefed about First aid and how it can be useful to them in their daily life. Later on, the students were also made aware of Youth Red Cross Membership and forms were also distributed among the students to become members of IRCS, J&K. Besides the students, some professors also took interest in the said programme.
In the end, Dr. Sanjay Karlupia thanked the team of Red Cross for organizing such a knowledgeable session and made sure that more and more students of his college will be registered under the Youth Red Cross programme and serve the society voluntarily. The programme ended on a fruitful note.
First-Aid training:- The IRCS offers first aid training courses to individuals and organizations, helping people acquire essential life-saving skills. Four days First-Aid Training Programme for the employees of M/S RVS iGlobal at RVS iGlobal- RVS Informatics IT Private Ltd. Narwal Bye Pass Jammu. During the various sessions, Dr. KavitaNijohnVerma and Dr.Aasia Noor, Medical Officers, from IRCS elaborated on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with first hand practical learning sessions, methods of handed fractures, rescue and transportation of patient and use of local resources during disaster along with practical field activities. Kanchan Devi, Sup. Pharmacist, NaziaBano, FMPHW elaborated on wounds and basic first aid equipments, poisoning, snake bites, stings situations. The training was assisted by and VironicaMarwah, Field Officer and Dengue Testing
Medical, Immunization, Eye Check-up Camps:- In an effort to provide essential healthcare services to those in need, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K has organized a comprehensive Medical Check-up, Immunization, Eye Check-up and Dengue Testing Camp in slum area of Roop Nagar, Maratha Colony Trikuta Nagar, Jammu in which 160 children and adults were examined.
A team of Red Cross including Dr. KavitaNijohnVerma, Medical Officer, Ravi Kant Magotra, Supervisor Pharmacist, NaziaBano, FMPHW, KuldeepBhat, Ophthalmologist, Mustaq Ahmed, Sup. Lab Technician attended the said camp. The camp included Immunization of general health assessments, vital sign measurements, eye examination and consultations to address common health concerns like sanitation, personal hygiene etc. The main focus of the camp was on the Dengue Rapid Test. Afterwards, free spectacles were also distributed to needy children by RohitKhajuria, IRCS, J&K.
Overall, the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K is dedicated to alleviating human suffering, ensuring the well-being of vulnerable populations, and promoting health and humanitarian values throughout India. Their initiatives and activities continue to make a significant impact in the J&K.
