Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday promised to reverse the decision of “Darbar Move” if voted to power.

‘Darbar Move’ was the name given to the bi-annual shift of the secretariat and all other government offices of Jammu and Kashmir from one capital city to another—Jammu winter capital—Kashmir summer capital, which operated from 1872 till 2021.

However, authorities in 2021 stopped this practice and said that since the administration had completed the transition of e-Office, there was no need to continue the practice of biennial ‘Darbar Move’ of the government offices.

The authorities even said that the end of the ‘Darbar Move’ will save Rs 200 Crore to the government exchequer. The Dogra ruler Maharaja Ranbir Singh had started the practice of ‘Darbar Move’ in 1872.

The Apni Party chief Bukahri on Tuesday said he would reverse the decision of the government on ‘Darbar move.”

“Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party fully backs the legitimate demand of the people of Jammu seeking reversal of the decision regarding the discontinuation of the ‘Darbar Move’ decision”, Altaf Bukhari said on X.

“Let this be put on record that Apni Party will take this matter on priority once elected to power”, he added.
